Gas industry needs a voice

24 May — The gas industry in Europe is failing to effectively put its case across to politicians, policymakers and the general public, and has fallen well behind a more organised and publicity-savvy renewables lobby in Brussels.

Industry experts at the May Flame conference in Amsterdam argued that lobbying efforts had been ineffective so far and that much more needed to be done. “The gas industry is very good at talking to itself, it is not so good at talking to other people and it is not so good at listening to other people,” Oxford Institute for Energy Studies’ Jonathan Stern told delegates at the Flame conference. “Is our message to the world: We are fine, we don’t need to do anything because gas will be the default option?”…
