Pirate attacks on vessels and tankers transiting off the coast of Somalia have been reduced considerably following measures put in place by the EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) and international collaborators, according to senior EU officials.

So far this year, there have been three attacks on vessels and tankers transiting high-risk areas – such as off the Horn of Africa and parts of the Western Indian Ocean – none of which were successful, according to the officials.
