A new gas discovery off Ireland is changing the outlook for a country that many expected to become 100% dependent on imports beyond 2030.

Independent producer Europa Oil & Gas announced last week that its Inishkea prospect in the Slyne Basin off Ireland’s Atlantic coast contains 42.5 billion cubic metres of unrisked prospective gas resources and has an estimated 33% chance of success.

The prospect’s development could be fast-tracked given its proximity to the existing Corrib Field facilities, which are a few kilometres away.
