China’s LNG imports hit a record high in January for the third month in a row as buyers stocked up for the Lunar New Year holiday at the start of February. The record volumes mean that inventories at LNG terminals are likely to be ample and that imports will have eased in February.

China imported 6.58 mt of LNG in January 2019, an increase of 27.8% year on year and up from the previous record of 6.29 mt set in December 2018, according to
