Mexico’s new president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has made some noteworthy energy policy announcements since taking office earlier this month, but gas appears to be slipping down the agenda.
Just five days after taking office, López Obrador suspended oil and gas field auctions for three years and ruled out the use of fracking in any current projects. Both conventional and unconventional gas acreage featured predominantly in the now-suspended 3.2 and 3.3 licensing rounds.
