Shell is looking beyond the impending startup of its Prelude FLNG project and progressing plans to develop the Crux gas and condensate field from the middle of the next decade. This would keep Prelude running at capacity and in situ offshore Western Australia well into the 2030s.

Crux had previously been seen as providing potential backfill gas for Prelude only once the project had been running for a decade or more, but indications are that falling development costs will make the field commercially...
