Kosmos Energy will plug and abandon the Pontoenoe 1 exploration well in Block 42 offshore Suriname after failing to discover commercial hydrocarbons, the company said on Wednesday.
Pontoenoe 1 was drilled to a depth of 6,194 metres in waters 2,497 metres deep at a location roughly 280 km northwest of Suriname’s capital of Paramaribo.
Kosmos, operator of the 600,000 hectare block with a 33.3% interest, plans to drill the acreage again in 2020.
