
Member states in the Council of the EU have cut back plans for carbon dioxide standards for passenger cars and vans, but their proposed targets nevertheless appear strong enough to support a continued electrification of road transport. Higher power demand resulting from the electrification of transport could also support the gas-fired power sector, although the scale of the impact is unknown.
