Algiers is taking a more realistic approach to developing renewables, dialling back on overly bullish rhetoric that has so far failed to yield much in the way of new capacity.

Authorities have gone quiet on last year’s plans to tender 4 GW of solar capacity in three 1.35 GW stages, and are instead mulling tenders for projects with smaller capacities.
