Egypt has invited tenders to install a third FSRU, illustrating the country’s increasing dependence on LNG imports.
The third FSRU is expected to be moored at the Red Sea port of Safaga in H1 2017. It will have a regasification capacity of 21.2 MMcm/d. Egypt currently imports LNG using two FSRUs at the port of Ain Sokhna with a combined regasification capacity of 35.5 MMcm/d. Egypt imported 700,000 tons of LNG in June, making it the biggest importer of the fuel in the MEA for the third consecutive month.
