The Shah Deniz consortium’s decision to select the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to transit the first 10 billion cubic metres of Caspian-sourced gas through Europe should not mark the end of Nabucco – the EU’s longest-running pipeline drama.

Reiterating the point that both TAP and Nabucco will be needed in the medium term, EU Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger wrote in an editorial for Austrian newspaper WirtschaftsBlatt on Friday that Azerbaijan was the “door opener” that would lay the tracks of the Southern Gas Corridor concept.
