An agreement earlier this month between China and Pakistan to move forward with an economic corridor linking Western China to the port of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea has renewed discussion about China’s geopolitical ambitions and the potential security implications of a new route for oil and gas from the Middle East and Africa.
