Members of the European Parliament voted on Thursday to support new binding climate and energy targets after the present goals expire in 2020. The MEPs demanded a 40% cut in CO2 emissions, a 30% target for renewable energy and a 40% target for energy efficiency.

The adopted resolution presents the parliament’s position on what the European Commission should include in its long-awaited proposal for binding 2030 climate targets. The commission is expected to present a legislative proposal on 22 January, which will also include a section...
