The European Commission has approved the proposed creation of a joint venture between Italian transmission system operators Snam and Società Gasdotti Italia to build and operate a gas transmission pipeline in Sardinia, it said on Tuesday.
The JV will be known as Sardinia Newco. Società Gasdotti Italia is jointly controlled by Australia’s Macquarie Group and Switzerland’s Swiss Life Group. The new pipeline will transport gas throughout Sardinia and will feature entry points for planned small-scale LNG regasification plants.
