Political infighting arising from a disagreement over Australia’s energy and climate policy triggered a leadership battle that resulted in Malcolm Turnbull losing the prime ministership to his treasurer, Scott Morrison, on Friday. The consequent change at the top of federal politics threatens to prolong uncertainty on emissions requirements for the country’s LNG, gas and power sectors.

Disagreement within the Liberal-National Party coalition government over Australia’s policy on carbon emissions caused factions to emerge.
