
Ecuador, the country with the third-largest oil reserves in South America, is facing a gas deficit that has forced it to consider imports from neighbouring Peru. However, Quito will need to accelerate its plans to limit the difficulties for Ecuador’s modest gas-to-power sector.
Petroamazonas, the oil production arm of state-run Petroecuador, warned earlier in August Ecuador could have a deficit of around 1.42 million cubic metres per day (MMcm/d) within five months.
