The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen announced on Monday that it has launched the world’s first decommissioning simulator.
The simulator is intended to support oil and gas companies with planning and preparation for plugging and abandoning wells in a similar way that pilots are trained and tested on flight simulators, the university said.
The simulator is expected to enhance safety and efficiency, and reduce costs. The university forecasts around 2,500 wells will be decommissioned across the UK, Danish, Dutch and Norwegian continental shelves over...
