The MEA’s dependence on imported gas and LNG will persist beyond summer because of the growing popularity of the fuel.

Egypt, Kuwait, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Israel all import LNG. While countries such as Egypt and Kuwait are planning to boost their regasification capacities, others such as Bahrain may join the LNG import club in the coming years. MEA countries imported 2.4 mt of LNG in July, higher than the 1.73 mt they imported in July 2015. GGA expects the region’s LNG imports to increase by 60% on an annual basis in 2016, to 24.9 mt.
