Gas demand from the MEA’s power sector is expected to grow in the coming years as the region boosts its gas-to-power capacity.

Bahrain’s growing gas-to-power demand could force the country to become an LNG importer by the end of the decade. The power sector is the biggest consumer of gas in Bahrain, but a significant portion of the electricity produced is used by industry and not supplied to the grid. Bahrain’s power sector consumed 11.1 billion cubic metres of gas in 2015, accounting for just over 72% of the country’s gas demand.
