Northeast Asia’s average LNG prices continue to creep up.
The average price of Japan’s LNG imports was $7/MMBtu in September. While this was still down by 26% year on year, it marked an 8% rise compared with August. A similar monthly gain in prices was seen in South Korea in September, with the average price for LNG imports reaching $6.8/MMBtu, a 7% increase month on month. Average prices in the region have been above $6/MMBtu since August, even in China where the average price was around $6.2/MMBtu in September. With further gains in oil prices expected in the coming months, the average price of LNG imports in Northeast Asia will also rise.
