The need to build stocks is supporting activity on the spot market.
With relatively low levels of gas in storage, major Northeast Asian buyers have been active on the spot market in advance of the winter. South Korea’s gas stocks were down by around 25% year on year at the start of August, with around 2.2 billion cubic metres of gas in stock. Japan also had relatively low levels of gas in storage at the start of August, with 5 bcm, down by 5% on an annual basis.
