January 2014 highlights
- An unusually hot summer in Argentina will boost LNG imports by the country in the next few months. Meanwhile, power demand in Brazil will maintain the country's dependence on LNG imports
- The weakening of the Brazilian real and Argentine peso against the US dollar will make gas imports more expensive for the Latin American countries
- Spot gas prices at the Transco Z6 pricing point in New York registered a record high of $121/MMBtu on 21 January because of a severe cold weather front. Regional prices will moderate as the weather becomes milder in coming months
- Weak gas storage levels in the East Consuming Regions of the US and Canada may still create supply issues in the region
