MEPs in the European Parliament’s environment (ENVI) committee voted on Monday night to support more ambitious standards for limiting carbon dioxide emissions from cars and vans beyond the targets proposed by the European Commission in November last year. 

The revised targets could help accelerate the roll-out of electric cars and vans in Europe, which could also boost the demand for electricity and gas-fired generation. However, the targets need support from the rest of parliament and the member states in the Council of the...
