Petronas announces discovery off Gabon

Malaysia’s Petronas has announced an oil and gas discovery at its Boudji 1 exploration well in Block F14 offshore Gabon, according to Xinhua.

The well was drilled in water depths of 2,800 metres and encountered 90 metres of gross high-quality hydrocarbon-bearing pre-salt sands. The discovery was made by Petronas subsidiary PC Gabon Upstream.

The discovery is a milestone for Petronas as it expands upstream growth in West Africa. Petronas’s deepwater portfolio has previously been restricted to Malaysia.
