China is on track to produce 10 billion cubic metres of shale gas this year, a senior government official said at a conference in Shanghai last week.

“Annual output can reach 10 bcm this year, which is equivalent to 10 mt of crude oil,” said Zhang Dawei, director of the Mineral Reserves Centre at the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR), speaking at the annual Asia-Pacific Shale Gas Summit last week.
