The Australian government has allocated funds to study the Gippsland, Otway, Bass and Sorell offshore gas basins in southern Australia, Mining Weekly has reported.
The study is part of a A$90 million (US$68 million) investment in domestic security and supply. “The original reserves that have powered our economy can’t last forever. To ensure Australia continues to make the most of our vast gas resources, it’s essential that we support ongoing exploration and development,” Matt Canavan, minister for resources and Northern Australia, said.
