Construction has started on the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India pipeline, according to Indian newspaper The Economic Times.
Workers welded the first section of pipeline crossing the Turkmen-Afghan border on Friday. The 1,840-km connection will carry 33 billion cubic metres per year of gas and provide new markets for Turkmenistan’s exports of the fuel.
However, the security situation in Afghanistan means experts believe the construction of this section of the pipeline will be challenging.
