Eni confirms Cypriot offshore gas find

Eni has confirmed the discovery of gas at its Cypriot acreage in waters 2,074 metres deep.

Eni has confirmed the discovery of gas at its Cypriot acreage. A lean gas discovery, Calypso 1, was made in Block 6, which is jointly held by Eni and Total.

The well was drilled in waters 2,074 metres deep and reached a final total depth of 3,827 metres, the company said in a statement.

It encountered an extended gas column in rocks of Miocene and Cretaceous age, and the Cretaceous sequence has excellent reservoir characteristics, Eni added.
