Gazprom’s Lithuania return shows it pays to be cheap

Gazprom’s rising share of Lithuania’s gas market shows countries in the region may be struggling to find anyone to beat the Russians on price

Russia is projected to tighten its grip on the Lithuanian gas market in 2017 as the Baltic state struggles to find LNG that can compete with Gazprom volumes on price.

According to the calculations of the Talinn-based Baltic News Service (BNS), Gazprom’s share of the Lithuanian market is set to rise from one-third in 2016 to about 55% in 2017. However, it will not reach the highs of 2015, when it stood at more than 80%.
