China NOCs scramble to shore up winter supplies

State energy giants PetroChina and China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) are striving to boost gas supply in northern China to meet demand, which has surged since the start of November after the onset of a particularly hard winter.

Freezing weather has chilled a number of cities and provinces in recent weeks, with Beijing seeing the first snowfall of the season on 20 November after average temperatures fell by 6-8 C.
