Trump can’t stop the renewables expansion

The cost of renewable energy is falling and will soon reach parity with fossil fuels – meaning renewables will continue to expand in the United States even if the administration of President-elect Donald Trump rolls back federal support for the technology.

Solar and wind can now compete on cost with coal and gas in some areas of the country, and they are set to increase their share of the energy mix. They will be helped by the global momentum that has built up to act on climate change, despite Trump’s campaign promises to cancel the US commitment to the Paris agreement and withdraw from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
