A report by Bloomberg New Energy Finance suggests that solar power in India could be more affordable than coal by 2020, according to Foreign Affairs.
The levelised cost of energy suggests that electricity generated from coal costs $0.07 per KWh compared with $0.10/KWh for solar, and the newswire expects the cost of solar to keep falling.
The government aims to have 175 GW of renewable power generation capacity by 2022, which includes 100 GW of solar power.
