Breaking the mould in Brazil

It is difficult to be a serious player in Brazil’s gas-to-power sector independent of Petrobras, which controls prices through owning and operating nearly every major pipeline. However, a project in Brazil’s northeast – that now accounts for 11% of the country’s total installed gas-to-power capacity – is managing without the state-run giant.

Brazilian generator Eneva has just concluded its takeover of Parnaíba Gás Natural (PGN) – the upstream company that supplies gas to Eneva’s 2.2 GW Parnaíba gas-to-power complex in the state of Maranhão.
