Kogas may take bold bet on Brazilian LNG

South Korea is seeking to tap the potential of energy-hungry Latin America, with state-run Kogas signing a preliminary agreement to build an LNG terminal in Brazil’s northeastern state of Ceará earlier this week. However, experts are sceptical that the project will be economically viable.

Kogas has proposed building an onshore terminal with 12 million cubic metres per day (MMcm/d) of regasification capacity in Pecém Port, the Ceará government said in a statement. Kogas would partner with state gas company Cegás and South Korean industrial giants POSCO E&C and Daewoo on the project.
