Algeria needs 20 GW more gas-power by 2030 – exec

Algeria embarked on an ambitious power capacity-building programme 10 years ago that will more than double its gas-fired generation capacity. The programme, led by state power company Sonelgaz, has been a boon for turbine suppliers and EPC contractors.

Turbine-maker Siemens set up its first office in Algeria in 1962 when the country secured its independence. Siemens Algeria’s chief executive, Farouk Benabdoun, talked to Interfax Natural Gas Daily about opportunities in the North African country after the boom.
