Higher-than-expected interest in Ireland’s Atlantic margin acreage has forced the country to postpone awarding its new offshore licences until Q1 2016.

More than half of the 291 blocks applied for were subject to bids from more than one company, and five applications were located in environmentally sensitive areas.

Seventeen companies submitted 43 applications, identifying 135 prospects, Ireland’s Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR) said late last week at a conference hosted by the department’s Irish Shelf Petroleum Study Group, part of the Petroleum Infrastructure Programme...
