China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) has shelved plans to deploy an FLNG vessel to develop its Lingshui 17-2 deepwater gas discovery in the South China Sea because it would be too expensive, a source with direct knowledge of the project has told Interfax.

The source said he had not seen a final estimate, but noted an FLNG vessel with a capacity of 1.2 mtpa could cost as much as RMB 10 billion ($1.60 billion).
