
Speaking at the 23rd World Energy Congress in Istanbul this week, Saudi Arabian Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih acknowledged his country’s plans to turn waste into wealth via carbon capture and storage (CCS) were at an early stage. But he added: "We are confident that in years – not decades – applications will emerge."
Falih’s remarks reflect Saudi Arabia’s desire to better understand the emerging technologies that could prolong the life of fossil fuels now the Paris agreement has given momentum to efforts to slow climate change.
