Reactor 3 at Shikoku Electric’s Ikata nuclear power plant restarted commercial operations on 15 August. The 890 MW unit became the fifth reactor to come back online following the shutdown of Japan’s entire nuclear capacity after the 2011 Fukushima disaster. It is one of only three currently operational reactors, however. Kansai Electric’s Takahama 3 and 4 were taken offline following a court injunction shortly after having restarted earlier this year. Ikata 3 brings Japan’s operational nuclear capacity up to around 2.7 GW.
