Kickstarting gas in transport

The use of gas in transport is small, but the sector could be set for strong growth if plans to develop LNG infrastructure for the shipping fleet and long-haul trucks succeed, according to speakers and delegates at a gas in transport forum hosted by Interfax in July.

Natural gas-fuelled vehicles (NGVs) make up just 2% of a global vehicle fleet of around 850 million passenger cars and 50 million trucks. Most of the worldwide fleet of 18 million NGVs is run on CNG and is concentrated in the few countries that have taken a policy decision to incentivise the use of gas in transport.
