Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov has signed a decree to begin construction of the Turkmen section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline in December, local media has reported.

Berdymukhammedov said the project will help solve the region’s economic, social and humanitarian issues.

In addition, it will create thousands of new jobs and build transport, communications and social infrastructure.

Turkmengaz and Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk will design and build the Turkmen section of the 33 billion cubic metre per year pipeline.

The Turkmen section is expected to be completed by December 2018.
