The Shah Deniz consortium has started construction on the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) expansion project in Azerbaijan, pipeline operator BP has told Interfax.
Construction work began at the end of June, with 10 km of the pipeline welded so far and another 7 km laid, the company said.
BP said the consortium had completed purchasing the land from Azerbaijan along the first 200 km of the route.
Preparations are underway in Georgia to build its section of the pipeline and the first and second compressor stations.
