Bogus media reports suggested Russia had drastically reduced gas supplies to Europe on Monday, causing spot prices at the continent’s main hubs to rise briefly, before market participants realised the information related to an incident in 2009. The reports, published by – among others – The Daily Mail gained traction on social media and suggested Russia had cut off supplies to six EU member states. Naftogaz Ukrainy immediately released a statement refuting the story.
