Japanese LNG imports dropped in February to 7.53 mt, according to preliminary Ministry of Finance data released on Thursday.

Total imports fell 1.9% year on year as power utilities and distributors imported and consumed less gas. Imports have slowed in recent months, arresting double-digit monthly growth seen earlier as Japanese utilities reached capacity.

“Imports were slightly lower than last February. I think we will plateau around this number,” Tony Regan, principal consultant at Singapore based Tri-Zen International, told Interfax.
