The UK capacity auction for 2020/2021 delivery, which closed on Friday,  saw around 1 GW of contracts awarded for a clearing price of just £1 per kW per year ($0.77/kW/y) – which is the lowest price to date. Last week’s auction was the second after the forced suspension of the scheme in 2018.

Only 34% of bid were successful and around 1.3 GW of gas-fired installations exited the auction without contracts. The preliminary...
