Last weekend, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez unveiled the cabinet of ministers for the country’s first-ever coalition government – which will have climate policy as a key priority.

A coalition formed by Spain’s socialist party (PSOE) and the hard-left Unidas Podemos took office on 12 January after two general elections and months of negotiations. The two parties have ambitious plans for the decarbonisation of Spain’s energy mix, which will force gas-fired power generation to compete with renewable energy sources.
