Methane emissions came under the microscope at a major international gas conference in Paris this month. If environmental groups get their way, the EU will put in place tough penalties on imported gas that does not meet its standards on methane slip. That could put LNG imports from the United States in jeopardy.

Methane emissions have taken an ever-higher profile in the environmental debate as the LNG industry has scaled up from its infancy in the 1970s to its current size of around 450 mtpa.
