The key issue: Renewable energy is growing significantly faster than natural gas in the US as a result of policy support mechanisms that require utilities to source a proportion of their generation from renewable sources.

Interfax analysis: Solar and wind generation in the United States is growing faster than gas. While the amount of electricity generated from gas more than doubled between 2001 and 2018, output from wind farms and solar parks grew nearly sixfold, albeit from much lower base levels.
