The key issue: Saudi Arabia has announced plans to introduce a cap-and-trade carbon market, following in the footsteps of a number of jurisdictions that are beginning to take carbon pricing seriously.

Interfax analysis: Carbon pricing is on a roll around the world. There were 46 national and 28 subnational carbon pricing mechanisms in place in April 2019 covering around 20% of global emissions, according to the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition – an advocacy group that includes governments, businesses and civil society organisations.
