Flows of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine have been boosted after an order on 13 September by German regulator the Bundesnetzagentur to immediately implement the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling on the OPAL pipeline.

OPAL is an extension of the Nord Stream pipeline into Germany and the Czech Republic, and has a capacity of 36.5 billion cubic metres per year. The ECJ verdict came on 10 September and overruled a European Commission decision taken in 2016 that allowed...
